In India, she is maa, aai, amma or mata; in France, she is maman; in parts of Africa, she is mama; in Vietnam, she is máor mẹ; in Wales, she is mam; in Hungary, she is anya.

But whatever country you are in, you will find her doing all the amazing things mothers do as a matter of course. So this weekend we pay tribute to her. And if you want to get her something nice and support Alberta artists and a local economy at the same time, you can’t do better than shop at the Carrot.

We have fibre art by Naomi Paul and gorgeous jewellery by the Woman to Blame, Orange Avocado, Life is Art, Foil & Fusion, Dragonfire Studio, and Cloud and Lolly Handmade Accessories. We have pottery by Earth Art ’n’ Soul Pottery, Kristen Young Ceramics, and glass by Nathan Philips. We have handmade soaps, beautiful silk scarves, art pieces by Maria Pace Wynters, and amazing buffalo-leather belts and bags. Or you could pick up some Intelligentsia fair trade coffee or a simple Carrot mug.

So, honour she-from-whom-you-sprung this weekend. After all, where would you be without her?
