Greetings
From His Worship Mayor Stephen Mandel
On behalf of City Council and the people of Edmonton, Alberta’s Capital City, I extend a warm welcome to everyone attending the Kaleido Family Arts Festival.
Year after year, Edmontonians and visitors anticipate the fun-filled and lively summer festivals that fill our streets and parks. The Kaleido Family Arts Festival – now in its sixth year – will once again showcase emerging and established talent from a broad range of artistic disciplines and ethnic backgrounds and offer Edmontonians the opportunity to explore their own artistic expression.
Thank you to the Arts on the Ave Edmonton Society for your vision and perseverance and to everyone who worked hard to put this exciting festival together. Your efforts have not only contributed to Edmonton’s love of the arts but have contributed to the ongoing celebration of what it means to be an Edmontonian. Events such as this help make our city a better place to call home.
I’m proud of our city’s artistic community and the many fine festivals we present each year.
Best wishes for a fun-filled and exciting festival!
Yours truly,
Stephen Mandel
From The Honourable Lindsay Blackett
Minister of Culture and Community Spirit
On behalf of the Government of Alberta, I would like to welcome all performers and spectators to the sixth colourful edition of the Kaleido Family Arts Festival.
If you want an example of the transformative power of the arts, look no further than Arts on the Ave and the Kaleido Family Arts Festival. Whether it is on the street, in the park or in the air, this festival lets families become observers, and sometimes participants, of beautiful forms of art and culture in Alberta, I am proud our government helps support this Festival—and others like it—through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
Special thanks must go to Arts on the Ave, and all the volunteers and organizers who helped plan this year’s Festival. Your efforts year after year help keep Alberta Avenue colourful, creative and safe for people of all ages.
Enjoy the Festival!
Yours Truly,
Lindsay Blackett
From Peter Goldring
Member of Parliament, Edmonton East
On behalf of the Prime Minister, The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, and as the Member of Parliament for Edmonton East it is my great pleasure to support the sixth annual Kaleido Family Arts Festival, September 9, 10 and 11, 2011.
This Festival is a key outlet for local performers to display the artistic talents of the Edmonton community. The Arts on the Ave Society has been promoting Alberta Avenue through Art, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together to contribute to building a strong community.
Our Government is proud to support the Arts on the Ave Society. By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.
The multi-disciplinary approach to the arts found at the Kaleido Festival means that there is something for everyone to appreciate, from music to dance to visual art. The Festival is one of the annual showcases of Alberta Avenue and I commend Arts on the Ave Society for working to establish 118th Avenue as Edmonton’s community arts avenue.
Sincerely,
Peter Goldring
