DOWN TO THE WOOD // Saturday, 10:00 am

Down to the Wood is an Alberta-based bluegrass band that plays music the old fashioned way, coming together around one microphone to sing and play together. They play a mix of straight ahead traditional songs, instrumentals, and a-cappella numbers, as well as original interpretations of songs not normally associated with the bluegrass genre.

KITA NO TAIKO // Saturday 11:45am, Sunday 12:00pm

Kita No Taiko means “drums of the north” and they are believed to be the most northern based group in the world. Members come from every age group and many different cultures. Discover the adventure of taiko through their workshop on Sunday.

Pre/post is a collaborative project lead by Edmonton’s Mat Halton. With strong melodies set over electronic and acoustic rhythms, pre/post is pop rock with an urban vibe.

Celcius

CELSIUS  // Saturday 1:30pm

At the heart of the Celsius sound lies the acoustic and electric bass inventions of Pierre-Paul Bugeaud, the lyrical creations of percussionist Gord Graber, and the soulful sonic designs of guitarist Jamie Philp. Performing as a trio since ‘04, the group coalesced into its present incarnation with the addition of keyboardist-composer Bill Richards in ‘07.

Complex fusion-style rhythms and innovative, spontaneous songs create an electric atmosphere that captivates their audiences. Incorporating the cajon beat box, world percussion instruments and a partial drum kit, Caleb Friesen is the perfect compliment to Karla Adolphe’s powerful voice and award winning songwriting.

LOW FLYING PLANES // Saturday 3:30 pm

The Low Flying Planes are a three piece band hailing from Edmonton, AB. Their song writing is as diverse as their  influences, based in traditional folk, roots, reggae and gypsy beats. The haunting harmonies are delicately woven into each song, while the banjo’s soulful rhythm keeps those feet tapping, and the groove of the bass lets the listener sit back and enjoy the ride.

Tilo Paiz is one of Canada’s top percussionists. He started playing marimbas in the family band at the age of seven and by age fourteen, he was a full-fledged professional drummer in the big band scene in San Salvador, and continued on to become one of Central America’s premier musicians.
