Down to The Wood

Down to the Wood is an Alberta-based bluegrass band that plays bluegrass the old fashioned way, coming together around one microphone to sing and play together. They play a mix of straight-ahead traditional songs, instrumentals, and a cappella numbers, as well as original interpretations of songs not
normally associated with the bluegrass genre.

Of Breath

Of Breath was created to blend worlds of sound, space, time, and movement. Both of these multi-talented artists have come together to bring everything they have done on their own to a point of unity with each other in a moment. To them live performance is the opportunity to connect with the audience in the most natural way possible.

Cam Boyce started playing violin at the age of 4 and has been going strong since. He has the ability to play with almost any musician with almost any instrument. Since 2000 Cam has been playing along with many musicians, dancers and performance based theater with the most recent fringe play “ANIME”.

Travis Boa has had a natural ability to sing with his first recorded song when he was 3 years old. Having music as a major part of his life for years he finally broke out into the music scene in Edmonton with small shows in café’s and bars, which turned into writing, recording and performing with well known modern dancer Kathy Ochoa in 2006 with the most recent project : My Heart is a Pioneer”.

Together they channel from there deepest parts to bring you a fully original experience.

Tim Hus

Tim Hus…he’s different than most…certainly nothing like the bulk of today’s young country stars who rely on ‘Hollywood looks’ instead of the grit that real country music is built on. Tim Hus has carved out a rather unique career with his songs and his ability to capture an audience with the material. For sake of comparison, consider him the new millenium version of Stompin’ Tom Connors…without the ornery attitude; or perhaps a modern day storyteller, the ilk of a Gary Fjellgaard. Neat comparisons… and one’s that Tim Hus not only confirms to be reasonably accurate, but also something that he deams to be proud of, to have his name mentioned in the same breath as those Canadian icons who traveled down the same musical paths that Hus is following today. www.timhus.ca

The Wheat Pool

In the dying days of 2004, the Canadian prairies slept beneath a blanket of fresh snow. Meanwhile, on a cold winter’s night in Edmonton, four young men gathered in a warm, fire-lit pub on Whyte Avenue with an idea to form a musical co-operative. This initiative was to give voice to their rural obsessions and fierce penchant for dark county-rock. The result of that night was The Wheat Pool, whose influences draw from fellow Edmontonians Old Reliable, Winnipeg’s The Weakerthans, Steve Earle, Neil Young, Blue Rodeo, early Wilco and Whiskeytown. The songs themselves stem from two brothers, who pen dark, driving country-rock songs that deal with timeless themes of death and good old-fashioned longing. These are songs that are best appreciated in your car, on a dirt road, late at night, chasing trains in the dark.

The Wheat Pool have spent the last 2 years building their performance resume around Alberta and have enjoyed the successes of sharing the stage at festivals and in clubs with touring acts such as Amy Millan (of STARS), Leeroy Stagger, Elliot Brood, Carolyn Mark, Painting Daisies, Nathan, Captain Tractor, Tim Hus, Romi Mayes and Ridley Bent to name a few. “Township” is their first full length release. www.thewheatpool.com
