Kaleido Artists: Visual
This year’s festival features a wide range of visual arts. Here are just some of the artists you will find at the festival. To find out where and when to find each, view our schedule here.
Jennifer Berkenbosch
“Radiant”
Perhaps you’ve noticed a painting here or there along 118th Avenue on buildings where you
wouldn’t expect to find artworks. They may be part of Radiant, a public art project by visual artist and
Arts on the Ave member Jennifer Berkenbosch.
Twenty-five paintings were meticulously crafted in her studio to be displayed at specific locations in the
Alberta Avenue community. They were mounted on buildings such as the Cromdale Hotel, Mackenzie
Pawn Shop and Dacia Restaurant, taking advantage of the beauty and character of the weathered wood
and peeling paint found on some of the older buildings on the Avenue. Some of the paintings are
large and bright, calling attention to themselves and their surroundings. Others are small surprises, oases of visual delight, noticeable only from a pedestrian’s vantage point. All of them celebrate the vibrancy and vitality of the avenue.
During the Kaleido Family Arts Festival Berkenbosch has an exhibition of paintings on canvas in the Alberta Avenue Business Association building, temporarily transformed into a gallery. Also look for a billboard cumulatively displaying the paintings found on the buildings.
