Arts Alive!: Kaleido 2007
Press Release, Edmonton, August 20, 2007 – Edmonton talent will take the spotlight as the 2nd annual Arts Alive! Festival returns to 118th Avenue, this September 28th and 29th. A family-friendly celebration of the arts, community and creativity, this year’s festival will bring together over 100 musical and performance acts, visual artists and artisans in a showcase of local and regional talent.
The theme for this year’s festival is “Kaleido”, evoking a kaleidoscope of colours, textures, sights and sounds through music, film, dance, performance, poetry and visual art. Festival Producer Christy Morin says the “kaleido” theme is an appropriate one for Arts Alive! Kaleidoscopes work best when light is shone through them. It’s the same here on 118th Avenue. The rich blend of diverse music, talent and experiences will all come together to bring beauty to our area. The festival will kick-off this year with a “No Tie” gallery and sales event in the old Alberta Cycle Building (9115-118th Avenue).
The festival is organized by Arts on the Ave, a non-profit, community based initiative working to develop 118th Avenue as a community arts centre. Since its inception in 2005 Arts on the Ave has helped bring new life to Alberta (118th) Avenue by supporting and promoting artistic expression. Arts on the Ave has successfully organized and presented extensive art showings, performances and activities in an educational, mentoring and sharing environment.
Stay tuned for more information about the festival line-up and check the Arts on the Ave website (www.artsontheave.org) for festival updates. Festival schedules will also be available at the Carrot Arts Coffeehouse (9351-118 Ave) in early September.
