The following is a message from Anna Rambow, the Deep Freeze Festival volunteer coordinator;
Last year we experienced exponential growth with both Deep Freeze and Kaleido, making a significant mark on the Edmonton Festival scene! We could not pull off these events without the dedication of our volunteers. We are so grateful for your help, and look forward to working with you once again as we near our 4th annual Deep Freeze Festival, taking place January 8th and 9th.
This year we are pleased to bring back Deep Freeze favorites including ice carving competitions, horse and wagon rides, an ice slide for the kids, Cabane A Sucre. cultural dance, street hockey tournaments,
artisan sale and MORE! New additions this year; the Mummers Friendly Contest, a two block street hockey challenge rather than a one block challenge, and a Strong Man Competition! As we continue to grow, our
need for volunteers also grows. This year we are expecting over 10,000 visitors to the Ave over the Deep Freeze weekend, and can certainly use all the help we can get.
If you are available to volunteer January 8th and/or 9th at Deep Freeze, please reply to this email with answers to the questions below….
- Are you available to volunteer at Deep Freeze indoors, outdoors, or both? (Outdoor volunteers will be offered opportunities to come inside to warm up throughout their shift!)
- Which shifts are you available for?
- Saturday, January 8th – Morning and Afternoon
- Saturday, January 8th – Afternoon and Evening
- Saturday, January 8th – Later Evening (Dance)
- Sunday, January 9th – Morning and Afternoon
- Sunday, January 9th – Afternoon and Evening
- Want to do the same job as last year? If so let me know what your position was and I will try to schedule you into that area.
- We need strong volunteers to help with pre-festival site set-up on January 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th. Shifts run from 10-2 and 2-6 on these days. Are you available to help with this? If so, which shift(s) would work for you? We will provide hot chocolate!
- Are you available for other pre-festival preparations as they arise?
Thanks again for your help! It is greatly appreciated.
Yours,
Anna and the Deep Freeze Team ; )

The weather is great, we’re looking forward to being outside more often,
and holiday time is just around the corner. The Carrot is getting busy too -
last Friday morning we had 6 or 7 people in by 9:45 am. There were 2
business meetings starting, then came in the Babes in Arms group.
With all the activity at the carrot we certainly need more people to take
care of our clients. If you know of someone who would be interested
in learning to become a barista, please have them get in contact with Irene
or the carrot and someone will get back to them shortly.
If you haven’t made coffee in awhile how about giving it a try again?
To volunteer, contact Irene, our volunteer Coordinator, at 477-6590 or irene@ehenri.ca
