The Green Alleys Edmonton

Green Alleys fosters safety and happiness in Alberta Avenue District by promoting crime reporting awareness and converting alleys into thriving green spaces. Our unwavering commitment is to elevate the district in every conceivable manner.

Green Alleys

Green Alleys aims to reclaim our alleys for a safer, more vibrant community. We envision these spaces as secure havens for children to play and for adults to garden and relax, free from worries. Our mission includes:

Green Alleys works to:

  • Adding art for those who live there.

  • Establishing safe play areas for children.

  • Enhancing lighting for increased visibility and crime deterrence.

  • Cleaning up alleyway litter and debris.

  • Boosting biodiversity and heat retention with trees, flowers, and herbs.

Our Alleys, We are growing!

From the project's inception, there has been a shared desire to expand beyond our initial five alleys, and we are delighted to announce the addition of a sixth alley in 2024

Don't Hesitate, Speak Up

However, it's crucial to remember why reporting matters:

  • It informs the police and provides accurate data about the issue.

  • It helps pinpoint crime hotspots.

  • It mobilizes community organizations to combat crime.

  • It ensures that offenders are held accountable for their actions.

Speak Up

We understand that reporting a crime can sometimes be a daunting decision, especially when you may perceive it as:

  • Minor in nature

  • With no apparent resolution

  • Inconsequential compared to other police priorities

  • A reluctance to feel like a victim or be stigmatized

Your voice matters, and together, we can make our community safer and more secure.

Tips from the Green Alleys Team

The following are ways to improve security around your home, keeping you and your neighbours safe:

  • Put bells on your gate, this will deter any unwanted visitors from entering your property.

  • Trim bushes, grown out bushes can give you some privacy, but these also act as hiding places for people to use illegal substances.

  • Keep your alley clean, people will be less likely to throw litter in your alley if there is no litter to begin with.

  • Install motion activated lights, this is one of the most effective ways to stop crime in your alley.

  • Follow the 2x2x2 rule, get to know 2 neighbours in front, behind, and to both sides of you.
